sorry, the pics will have to wait...but...

We arrived in Lima (Central West) yesterday morning (Thurs) for 2.5days after spending 5 days in Arequipa (South Central-West)

My internet access is limited, so I will not be able to post any pics of Lima until I get to a wireless connection. Thankfully, Tim and I were able to get a hold of our 2nd contact (translator) the morning we arrived. Thanks to all who prayed!

Today (Friday), we spent the day travelling around to different areas of poverty surrounding Lima. It was eye opening, and encouraging. The organization that we were with is doing great work, and it is evident they are impacting the communities around them. Tomorrow we will hopefully meet with a local church to hear what the Lord has been doing through their ministry. Please pray that we will be able to meet with the; it is yet to be confirmed.

Thanks again for reading the blog! Ciao!

Some more pics from Arequipa

This is a picture taken from a ´Cobee´(sp?). These are the local busses. It cost about .40c USD to travel about 10 minutes....stinkin cheap. They can get VERY crowded, I was fortunate to not take one at peak travel time. This picture shows their process of building houses. They build as they can afford it. This house was built with only one level, but most houses (even those with 3 levels) have rebar (steel bars) stick out so that when you´re ready/can afford to add on, it´s easy to do so...neat eh?

We had dinner here tonight...Turkish Restaurant...mmm soo good. The hot sauce was a LIL spicy for even me...
Tonight we were able to share in a prayer meeting with some people from the sister church. The lady in the middle (Felicitas) encouraged us that even though her marriage is tough right now, God has sustained her and given her strenght to love her husband (not a believer, and an alcoholic). The gentleman beside her is (Falstos), he is leading hte prayer meeting tonight. He encouraged us by thanking and praying for us and the team that will be coming down in July. If you think of it, please be praying for Felicitas and her marriage.
This is Tim Visscher & I. Tim is a Project Manager with Hungry for Life, and him and I worked together on this assessment trip to plan the trip for the team this summer. Please be praying for us as we continue to plan details for the team. Also, Tim and I are flying from Arequipa to Lima on Thursday A; be praying for direction, travelling in Lima, and meetings with our prospective contacts in Lima.
thanks for looking at the blog! Ciao!

Some pictures from Arequipa

Hey,

so here's some pictures from Arequipa, Peru. Sorry, but they're out of order. I've put the dates by them.

This is me in Lima Airport @ 2am on Saturday morning. I had been flying since 7am the day before, and now Tim and I were staying the airport until our flight left at 7am on Saturday for Arequipa....man were we tired and stinky...

This is a picture from the flight from Lima to Arequipa. (Saturday AM)

This is a picture of a plaza in a shopping area of Arequipa. The cathedral in the background is incredibly huge. (Monday PM)

This is a snack we had today (Tuesday). The ring type dough thingy's are sorta sweet with a syrup like dip. In the top right corner of the picture you will see a stick with a couple pieces of flat meat on it -- that's cow heart..mm...it was actually quite good. (Tues PM)

This picture is taken from a viewpoint in South West Arequipa. What I'm focusing on is the mud/straw roof'd house beside the brick walled house. It's shocking to think that there is such poverty immediately beside a nice house (on left). (Tues PM)

This is the house that Tim and I are staying at. (Tues AM)

This is a Catholic Cathedral right beside a plaza. These yellow taxis are EVERYWHERE! (Mon PM)

This is the river that runs through Arequipa. It's very dirty. It fills up REALLY fast when it rains (it's rained every evening since we've been here). The streets do not have storm drains, so when it rains, it forms huge puddles/small lakes quickly.
